Taylor Swift Sings “You Need To Calm Down” in New Song

Taylor Swift may be the creative in her use of weaving a secondary message in her songs…but there is nothing subtle about her message to her haters in her new song “You Need to Calm Down.”

The singer released the single off of her new upcoming album, Lover, at midnight on Friday, June 14.

“Say it in the street/That’s a knock out/but you say it in a Tweet/That’s a cop out,” she sings, seemingly calling out the Internet trolls/haters who have been critical about her.

Taylor also shows love to the LGBTQ community with the line “Why are you mad/When you could be GLAAD,” as well as the line, “Cause shade never made anybody less gay.”

She also adds plenty of girl power, noting that she and her fellow girls are all worthy of crowns.
